Tamton
Mustapha, MD
was born in Calicut Kerala, India in 1941. He went to medical
school in India and graduated in 1964. He practiced medicine
for close to two years in India before coming to Brooklyn,
NY in 1966. Since then he had a general medical residency
in Brooklyn VA Hospital and then Grasslands Hospital in
Valhalla. Afterwards he did a two-year residency in Gastroenterology
at Montefiore Hospital at Albert Einstein Medical College
in the Bronx.
In 1972 he started his Gastroenterology practice at 848
Columbia St., Hudson. He is Board Certified in Internal
Medicine as well as Gastroenterology. He is a fellow of
the American College of Gastroenterology and is a member
of the American College of Physicians, American College
of Physician Executives, American Gastroenterological Association
as well as many other medical organizations. He is the past
president of the medical staff of Columbia Memorial Hospital,
as well as Chief of Medicine of the Medical Department of
Columbia Memorial Hospital. He was Chairman of the Quality
Assurance Committee of the PSRO of Hudson Valley. He has
held the position of President of the Columbia County Medical
Society multiple times. He has given numerous talks on Gastroenterology
related problems in these two counties, Columbia and Greene.
He was also on the teaching faculty of Albany Medical Center.
His outside activities are quite a few. He is past master
of Kedemiah Lodge and belongs to Cyprus Shrine of Albany.
He was the past president of the Hudson Rotary Club, as
well as past District Governor of Rotary District #7210
comprising all the eight counties of the Hudson Valley.
He is also involved in the Rotary International and travels
abroad for charitable purposes. He has served on the Medical
Advisory Committee for Medicaid at the New York State Health
Department. His wife, Dr. Rahma Mustapha, a Physiatrist,
is also in the same practice. Dr. Mustapha has two daughters,
Monisha and Mumtaz, and a son, Nigel.
He
cherishes the two awards given to him; one the Volunteer
of the Year Award given by the American Heart Association
out of Ulster, Greene and Columbia Counties and, two, the
Rotarian of the Year given to him out of the eight counties
of the Hudson Valley - Columbia, Greene, Ulster, Sullivan,
Orange, Rockland, Putnam and Dutchess Counties.
